Coming up next week, Simon Peplow will be showing new work here at the shop. Along with original work, limited edition prints specifically designed for Superb will be available and on show as well. The show is looking great. I’ve posted a little sneak peek for you all to see. Sprocket Rockets opens on December 4th at 6-8 p.m. They’ll be drinks and snacks! Hope to see you there!

BFF Weekend, off to a Great Start

posted by Jason on 2009.11.21 , under Alleycat, DJ, Photography, Racing, Sponsor

Last night marked the beginning of the the Bicycle Film Festival weekend here in Boston. There was a massive gathering at the Middlesex lounge for Gold Sprint racing which later turned into a rather epic dance party. Thanks to everyone who came out and I hear the final races and Awards might be taking place Monday night back at Middlesex at the Geekhouse Fundraiser. Remember the screenings for the BFF start today at 5pm, with an alleycat and afterparty following. See you there!

Bicycle Film Festival Festivities Start Today!

posted by Jason on 2009.11.20 , under Alleycat, DJ, Group Ride, Movies, Racing, Shop Visits, Sponsor

The Bicycle Film Festival is coming to Boston this weekend and we are starting things off right tonight with some Bold Sprints at the Middlesex lounge starting at 7pm. I’ll be DJing for the sprints and my good friend Brek. One will be DJing afterwards.

Saturday Brunch @11am at Grand Union, followed by a casual group ride to some of Bostons best bike shops and local frame builders.

Screenings go from 5pm-10pm, grab your tickets

Race from the screenings organized by Croth-Jackson.  More info on the race format from Croth himself:

This year the race will start nearby the Brattle Theatre after the last screenings finish, probably 11-11:30PM. Following last year’s format, riders will visit 5 Box Offices for tickets to 5 nearby Theatres, there will possibly be a Snack Bar along the way. Also like last year there just might be a couple of hills involved, so start preparing. Faster riders might finish in under 1 hour.

Race is free to anyone holding a Festival Pass (which gets you in to all the movies in the whole festival for only $22, buy online: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/88244), or $5 for anyone else.

Top male and top female finishers will each win one of two custom-built wheelsets from Open Bicycle and Superb Bicycle, along with a custom Croth•Jackson toolpouch/whiskey coozie combo. There will be lots of other prizes as well. Prizes/Awards at the afterparty at Flattop Johnnies in Kendall Square.

Red, Yellow and a Little Bit Girly.

I spend a majority of my time online, constantly coming across great stuff that falls by the way side. But now that I am here at Superb for a bit, I can share all the bike related stuff and junk and things that find their way to my laptop. This week I’ve got a bunch to share.

I got all fancy with the photoshop machine tonight, cutting, cropping, slicing, dicing to show you a ton of things. However, it’s at this point that I’d like to take a moment and apologize to the people of the male persuasion that read this blog. As I preened my images for upload tonight I realized, oi vey this is some girly-esque stuff I’ve piled up here. So boys, I apologize if this is a wee departure from what you’re used to…but we know girls read this blog too. Plus, there’s stuff here I know you’ll all like. PLUS PLUS. PLUS. The holidays are coming! Don’t forget Festivus.

Let’s get started! (Starting above, from right going clockwise). Last Saturday Steve ESPO Powers’ solo show opened at White Walls in SF, I thought you guys would really appreciate ESPO’s awesome hand lettering. I know I do. I really dig the beaten leather and hand hammered grommets of Hambone’s Balzac bags (available in brown and white as well, so sweet.). Hillarietasche’s Yellow Ten Speed print would make a great, inexpensive gift. As I think we’re all broke, right? Lastly, one of my very favorite illustrators Gemma Correll made this tandem “Let’s Ride” tote that’s not only functional but hilarious.

Next! Ok, now is when it starts to get a little girly…kinda sorta (yeah, that tote wasn’t femme at all). Lee Meszaros makes these killer Merit Badges. This little red number is for “tooting your own horn”. Don’t deny it, that’s cute. I couldn’t help it, I double showed Hillarietasche’s prints. This time it’s red. Michael C. Hsiung is a hilarious illustrator who has a totally normal fascination with weird hybrid dudes (mermen, centaurs, and just plain drunkards). I just threw his print in for some merry good measure. Lastly, I found Death and Texas’ etsy store recently and am enamored with their unique handiwork. The old timey, mattress ticking of the handle bar bag is unique but classic and super sturdy. Oh and girls, it turns into a purse once you’re off your bike.
