Devil Takes the Hind Wheel Criterium

We almost forgot to add this event to our calender for this week! The Boston Bike Messenger Association (BBMA) is throwing a criterium as a benefit to send Boston messengers to compete in the North American Cycle Courier Championships (NACCC) in Richmond, VA this year. It is $10 race entry fee and there will be t-shirts for sale. The race will be a figure 8 criterium, Australian style. For those that don’t know what an Australian criterium is then you’ll just have to see for yourself. The race will be on a set course in Winthrop Sq. Downtown Boston starting at 9:30pm this Friday May 18th. Come out to watch, race, or just support your local bike messengers!

2012 Boston Messenger Invitational

This weekend was the 2012 Boston Messenger Invitational. This is not like a normal alley cat but is by invite only to working Messengers and is a simulation of a real work day. The person that makes the most “money” wins. Our shop was one of the check points of the race so we had front row seats to see all the racers coming by to drop off and pick up packages. There were a good number of racers from Boston as well as other cities and it was a perfect day for riding all over town. Our friend Butters won the race and sent a shout out to our mechanic Tom for replacing his bottom bracket and chainring the day before the race.

Boston Barbeque Cat

Yesterday was the Boston Barbeque Cat, a benefit for the Boston Bike Messenger Associations Hard Luck Emergency Fund.

Checkpoints were stationed throughout Boston at different spots, and here at Superb we got to see some of Boston’s swiftest riders eating, drinking and getting smacked by pickles for points and pogs.

Pogs were distributed as a points system every time a pickle feat was performed.

In order to get the big points, you had to make big risks, and in this case it meant drinking a whole solo cup of pickle juice. At least two others took the pickle juice plunge.

Jason and some other observers watch the pickle carnage from the safety of the shop entrance.

Roz took first place in Women’s. Tom marks her manifest while she takes on the pickle juice challenge.

The prizes for the racers will be handed out here. All are welcome to come to the After Party, but the owner of the space does want a guest list. Pony Up IV Tonight!

Come out tonight for the 4th Annual Pony Up Race! We are sponsoring the event so you’ll have a chance to win some of our tees and caps along with other great sponsor prizes. The race is going to be messenger style, consisting of pick ups and drop offs. The first person to the first check point automatically gets 50$! Registration starts at 9pm in Chinatown and races will start around 11pm. So bring yourself, your friends and a definitely bring a wad of cash!

Superb Bicycle Snow Race: Results!

Thanks to everyone who braved the storm to come out and ride in what I consider the most fun riding conditions of the year. We were thoroughly impressed with how quickly the racers made it from Superb to Cambridge Bicycle and back considering the amount of snow on the road, gusting gail force winds and missing manhole covers!

Top Three finishers were

3rd Cait 20:35 $20

Snow Race Part 2: Blizzard Man! TONIGHT @ 11:30

We are throwing another snow race tonight to celebrate the first big snow in Boston and to show the snow who’s the boss. Come over to Superb around 11:30 with your fastest bike and race from Superb to Cambridge Bicycle and back using whichever course you choose. The Blizzard Man race will start promptly at MIDNIGHT. Helmets and lights strongly recommended. 1st place receives a $75 gift card to Superb or Cambridge, 2nd place gets $35, and 3rd gets $20

“Make a Wish” Street Race Tonight!

BFF Weekend, off to a Great Start

Last night marked the beginning of the the Bicycle Film Festival weekend here in Boston. There was a massive gathering at the Middlesex lounge for Gold Sprint racing which later turned into a rather epic dance party. Thanks to everyone who came out and I hear the final races and Awards might be taking place Monday night back at Middlesex at the Geekhouse Fundraiser. Remember the screenings for the BFF start today at 5pm, with an alleycat and afterparty following. See you there!
