Superb Bicycle is proud to present Bella Biciclette, an exhibition of beautiful vintage bicycles from the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. Expect to see bicycles from Colnago, De Rosa, Rossin, Takhion, Eddy Merckx and even a Cinelli Laser. All bicycles and frames at the show will be available for purchase. Please RSVP by emailing RSVP@SuperbBicycle.com with your name in the subject line. Beverage and light appetizers will be provided and formal dress is suggested. RSVP will be required for entry and remember we have limited space inside our shop so there might be a line to get in, *hint* arrive early!
If you are a collector, or very interested in purchasing one of these unique bicycles please let us know in your RSVP as we will be having a special early showing for seriously interested buyers.
Last years “Hot Bike” contest was such a success that we will be throwing another one this year. We will have categories such as: Best Paint Job, Most Aero, Most Original, and Best Vintage Style. Bring your hottest bike as long as it didn’t place in last years competition. This years judging will be by attendees of the show so everyone can vote! The winners will get prizes from some of our favorite brands and entry into the contest is only $5.
Please be respectful of our neighbors and no outside drinks will be permitted in the shop.
Just around every corner of Berlin, there is a place to rent a bike and hoards of bikes locked up. Most stores have their own bike racks with their name on top. Bike lanes are everywhere and if you’re not careful where you’re walking you might get run over by a cyclist, since the bike lanes are along the sidewalk mostly (versus in the street). The street lights have signals for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. There are small bicycle shops everywhere you look and it seems just about everyone rides a bicycle. Even kids ride their bicycles around, some small enough that can’t pedal are just pushing themselves along with their little booties. The graffiti in Berlin is also rampant. There are a lot of cycling related images.
The one thing that caught my attention is how everyone locks up their bicycles. They mostly use cable locks and some times the bikes are free locked, locked only bar handle bars and wheels. It’s wild especially since I heard that some people have practically made bike theft a business. Sometimes if thieves really want your bicycle, during the day they will lock their lock around your bike, so when you go to retrieve it, you can’t. Then they roll up late in the evening to snip it all.
I have yet to see any messengers around Berlin, but in Prague I caught a couple of snap shots of messengers hard at work. They seem pretty legit with bright yellow accents and “Messenger” stamped along their bags.
Christian is our Superb Sponsored Trick Rider. You can find him most days practicing outside the shop and he is always there to lead the way for Thursday Trick Nights (TONIGHT @ 7PM @ THE SHOP). He has really been doing his part in pushing the Boston Trick Scene as one of the first and best fixed freestyle Boston Riders. Out at interbike I got to talk to some of the great guys at cinelli about the upcoming Laser reissue. All the final details are still waiting to be ironed out but it sounds like it will be a more traditional geometry track frame, with dual 700c wheels and a slightly forward sloping top tube. They will mainly be made to order and are only planning to start with 10 frames. Price, as you can imagine, will be quite high, so start saving your pennies and if you must have one talk to us soon so we can have one pre-ordered for you.
