Dogs are great, but being an avid cyclist with a pooch could pose a potential problem. A fun ride about the city can be coated with fret and worry about a furry companion who is ever so dilligently waiting in his crate to be let out on his own adventure.

Our customer/friend Kate has it all figured out.

Dog plus bag plus bike equals perfect.

Kate’s had Nacho (full name: Nachito) for a few years. She rides with him basically everywhere. After a lot of patience (and not to mention treats), this aspiring dog trainer convinced her pup that her Freight bag wasn’t a bad place to be. Anytime you see them riding around town you can definitely tell that he is psyched on being on Kate’s back.

New Brooks Product In Stock!

We are always trying to keep it classy here at Superb, after all we are a Brooks Dealer of Excellence. Brooks has just recently launched their slender grips. This is a great option for people who are looking for the Brooks class, but want something less bulky. The best part about these guys is that the leather grip tape can be swapped out of the grip cartridge for different colors. We also have the classic Brooks handlebar tape in their harder to find colors, green and white. For those super commuters, we brought in the Brooks Trouser Straps. They are great since they work on the same principle as a snap bracelets, like the ones that you got confiscated from you in 4th grade, covered in fine genuine leather. And last but not least is the Brooks Wheel Kit containing 3 tire levers, which is more than enough to get any pesky tire off, and a double sided spoke wrench. Come by and check out the Brooks goodies. Any of these items are a great way to compliment any existing Brooks saddle.

Our Superb Sprints have been getting a warm reception. Yet again we have another one of our babies being snapped up by you guys! Billy went with the classic finish, good old polished aluminum. Pretty soon Billy will be joing the ever growing Sprint crew in Boston. We’ll have to start inventing a special wave of some sort… This bad boy is going to be raised as a single speed commuter, equipped with a Sram Omnium crank set, Campagnolo Veloce brake set, Chris King headset, Velocity Aero Wheel set, and Hold Fast straps on platform pedals. Remember that if you can dream it, we can build it. Doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a track bike, single speed, 3 speed, road bike etc., stop in an let us help you find or build the right bike.

Customer Profile: Bike and Build’s Heather Gardiner

While we’re all going on summer vacations, Heather Gardiner is spending her summer on her bike and building houses.

She spent Marathon Monday in front of our shop raising money for her trip with Build & Bike 2012, an organization that organizes teams of 20-30 young adults to ride across the country and build homes.

“There are eight different trips you can take. Im going from North Carolina to San Diego. Each rider raises $4500 and during the ride we elect which organizations we want to donate our funds to,” said the 23-year-old Northeastern graduate.

She will spend 13 days of her 10 week trip building affordable housing.

She’s been raising money a variety of different ways, from collaborations with restaurants to bar pub crawls. Today she decided to sell baked goods in order to raise her remaining funds. As of this morning she’s $780 from her goal of $4500.

Brooks Holdalls: The Millbrook and the Glenbrook

Nothing says Summer/Spring bummer like carrying a variety of items on your back while on a longer ride.

This is where the Brooks Millbrook and Glenbrook Holdalls come along.

You may venture the question, “how much do these Holdalls carry?” Well, we thought we’d give you a demonstration with Tom’s Geekhouse and a custom Surly we have on consignment.

Here’s the Geekhouse modeling the larger Glenbrook.

At 380 x 160 x 180 mms in faux leather with vinyl lining, and vegetable tanned leather trimmings.

One windbreaker, a pair of Mavic shoes, a tube, hand pump, tire levers with a little bit of wiggle room left over.

Wei Wei’s Linus Dutchi

Wei Wei has been slightly upgrading her Linus Dutchi ever since she purchased it last year and she finally has it to the point where she allowed me to photograph it. She really dialed it in and all the changes really tie the bike together into a super classy commuter. The Hammered fenders are made by Velo Orange and look great on almost everything. Her boyfriend Justin who is a woodworker built her the custom crate for the back so she doesn’t have to sling her bag over her shoulder. The stitch on leather grips are a small addition that still makes a big impact on the elegance of the bike. Classic Lights made by Soma make it safe to ride at night while looking great at the same time. The Brooks B67s is the perfect saddle for an upright bike like this and Wei Wei says it makes the bike so comfortable to ride making it her go to bike on most days. We stock the Dutchi and all these accessories at Superb so if this looks like a great city ride to you, stop on by and we can talk about all the options. Nao from 3RRR and Tomii Cycles brought in this great city bike to sell on consignment. He built it up for his wife but it ended up not being small enough (even though it is a 45cm) so he is going to be building her a custom frame instead. He put a lot of great details on this bike and it would make someone a wonderful commuter or around town bike. Asking price is $1200, much less than he has in the bike and it is in basically like new condition. Should fit some one who is between 4’11″ and 5’5″. Stop by the shop to check it out.

New 2012 White Fuji Feathers in Stock!

We had already gotten our shipment of the 2012 Fuji line up in, but somehow the white ones had slipped by us till now! From an all black color scheme now to an all white color scheme. I don’t know if Fuji knows that they are creating a “good vs. evil” or a “dark vs. light” theme here, but we like it. The 2012 Fuji Feather in white has the same specifications as the black ones in our previous post. We have to admit that the white ones are always a little harder to come by so if you are feeling extra “good” today, you better fly down fast.

Were getting bombarded with the new 2012 line up! The new 2012 SE Lagers have arrived this year in Gold. SE has put some nice touches on the new Lager with a cut out chain ring and gold risers reminiscent of BMXs since that’s where their roots first began. The Lager is great for those looking for a more causal ride. With a relaxed geometry and riser bars, the Lager has a less aggressive and more comfortable ride. Equip with brakes, freewheel and cog this is a great bicycle for someone who is getting back into riding or looking to go fixed.
