Thursday Trick Nights!

posted by Jason on 2010.09.03 , under Fixed Gear, Freestyle, Group Ride

We are starting a regular Thursday Night Trick Night. Anyone interested can meet up at Superb at or before 7pm Thursday nights, literally anyone, beginner to advanced, with whatever bike you have. We will roll out to various locations around town to have fun and work on some tricks. Even if you just want to master your track stands or hang out this will be a good way to learn new skills and make new friends.

Last night was our test run and Christian, Craig and I had a great time! Hope to see you next Thursday!

Here are some photos from last nights test run!

The Joys of Mountain Biking

posted by Jason on 2010.06.07 , under Downhill Mountain Biking, Group Ride, Photography, Summer

I love getting out of the city once or twice a week to hit up the local and not so local mountain biking trails. New England really has a lot to offer Mountain Bike riders if you know where to look and new friends have really been showing me some great places to ride recently. Middlesex Fells and Lynn Woods are probably the easiest places to get from the city, but Highland Mountain is only an hour and half trip up to New Hampshire and has arguably some of the best Downhill and Freeride trails in the Country. But what I have recently found out is that some of the greatest places to ride near Boston, you might have never heard of, places where local riders have hand cut and maintained trails with Mountain Biking in mind.
Today I visited a deceivingly small area of green space right outside the 95 loop, but this small section of forest houses over 10 miles of some of the most technical Mountain Bike trails you’ll ever find. Trails with names like McFly and Deloreon, I mean they are going to have to be good right? But one of the most surprising things about this area is what we came upon on one of the trails. Apparently an entire functioning model railroad was constructed in the middle of the woods. I can only imagine the amount of time the man who built this must have put into it, the tressels alone look like they would take years to construct. Apparently he has been spotted hanging out with his wife, running the train and sipping mixed drinks. I sat in awe of this creation that only a Mountain Bike would have brought me to, and look forward to other great places my bike will take me to in the future.

Bicycle Film Festival Festivities Start Today!

posted by Jason on 2009.11.20 , under Alleycat, DJ, Group Ride, Movies, Racing, Shop Visits, Sponsor

The Bicycle Film Festival is coming to Boston this weekend and we are starting things off right tonight with some Bold Sprints at the Middlesex lounge starting at 7pm. I’ll be DJing for the sprints and my good friend Brek. One will be DJing afterwards.

Saturday Brunch @11am at Grand Union, followed by a casual group ride to some of Bostons best bike shops and local frame builders.

Screenings go from 5pm-10pm, grab your tickets

Race from the screenings organized by Croth-Jackson.  More info on the race format from Croth himself:

This year the race will start nearby the Brattle Theatre after the last screenings finish, probably 11-11:30PM. Following last year’s format, riders will visit 5 Box Offices for tickets to 5 nearby Theatres, there will possibly be a Snack Bar along the way. Also like last year there just might be a couple of hills involved, so start preparing. Faster riders might finish in under 1 hour.

Race is free to anyone holding a Festival Pass (which gets you in to all the movies in the whole festival for only $22, buy online: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/88244), or $5 for anyone else.

Top male and top female finishers will each win one of two custom-built wheelsets from Open Bicycle and Superb Bicycle, along with a custom Croth•Jackson toolpouch/whiskey coozie combo. There will be lots of other prizes as well. Prizes/Awards at the afterparty at Flattop Johnnies in Kendall Square.
