We almost forgot to add this event to our calender for this week! The Boston Bike Messenger Association (BBMA) is throwing a criterium as a benefit to send Boston messengers to compete in the North American Cycle Courier Championships (NACCC) in Richmond, VA this year. It is $10 race entry fee and there will be t-shirts for sale. The race will be a figure 8 criterium, Australian style. For those that don’t know what an Australian criterium is then you’ll just have to see for yourself. The race will  be on a set course in Winthrop Sq. Downtown Boston starting at 9:30pm this Friday May 18th. Come out to watch, race, or just support your local bike messengers!

2012 Boston Messenger Invitational

posted by on 2012.04.29 , under Alleycat, Racing

This weekend was the 2012 Boston Messenger Invitational. This is not like a normal alley cat but is by invite only to working Messengers and is a simulation of a real work day. The person that makes the most “money” wins. Our shop was one of the check points of the race so we had front row seats to see all the racers coming by to drop off and pick up packages. There were a good number of racers from Boston as well as other cities and it was a perfect day for riding all over town. Our friend Butters won the race and sent a shout out to our mechanic Tom for replacing his bottom bracket and chainring the day before the race.

Black Falcon Crit

posted by on 2012.04.21 , under Photography, Racing, Superb Frames

I went down to this weeks Black Falcom Crit after closing the shop on thursday and arrived right as the race was starting. Both Tom, our Mechanic, and Jill where racing on their Superb Sprints and I wanted to try to get them in action. Sadly my night time action photography skills are quite lacking so what follows isn’t that great, but it gives you a decent idea at least. The Crit is about a mile lap that is done 15 times. Most people were riding road bikes but a select few where hanging in there on their track bikes. Tom didn’t have time to swap his bars after work so ending up racing in his risers, which turned out to be much harder than he anticipated. He said next time he will be putting on a more appropriate set of bars and putting on a smaller cog as well. However despite his so called handicap he still finished somewhere in the middle. Jill was better prepared with drop bars and a harder gear and ending up doing quite well. It was Jill’s first race on the Sprint and she said she fell in love it and is super excited to be racing track this year. Check out more information over at the Black Falcon Crit Facebook page and come on down to the next one and race or spectate!

Howard’s Superb Sprint

Howard just finished building his Superb Sprint and shot me over the photos, I gotta say it looks great. Campy Pista wheels and Record cranks just look amazing on there! Howard will be racing his Sprint in the LA area so keep an eye out!
