We just picked up a really awesome line of Bike goods from Brisbane Australia. There stuff is all handmade and uses lots of salvaged materials.

Text from Brisbane Outdoor Gear

“Strap Ons are a highly adjustable and hard wearing strap system for everything from fixed gear freestyle riding to everyday use. Designed from the ground up as an alternative to double straps and cages, the Strap Ons achieve maximum usability without compromising the feel of the ride.”

“Despite its slim size, the Love Handle expands to contain almost all the essentials. Wallet, phone, keys, basic tool kit, a spair tube, and a pen. You also can cram in your d-lock on the back into its own sleeve, regardless of size.”

“Our pouches & tool rolls were created with the aim of using as much reclaimed material as physically possible. All material is reclaimed apart from the critical hook and loop, binding tape, stitching, and brand tags. Despite being reclaimed and technically “old” material, the end result is still extremely robust and functional to a high degree.”

“We like to have fun with what we do, which is why we take our beer drinking seriously. Not having a stubbie cooler at all times was a pain in the arse. Not having a top tube protector was a pain in the nuts. So obviously the logical thing to do was combine the two…

And here it is, the Beernutt. Designed to protect your bike (and nuts if you are clutz like us) during the day, and then keep your beer cool in the evening. It is adjustable to fit a variety of bike tubes, while holds anything from a standard stubbie to a 40 ounce and everything in between.”

We have a ReLoad SoftPack Back Back for you this week at over 25% off. Was $195 now $145! Come grab it quick, this isn’t going to stick around long!

From ReLoad:
“The Softpack shares the exact dimensions of our new Minipack (15″ h x 12″ w x 5″d), as well as the same redesigned shoulder straps (anatomically-molded closed cell foam with an adjustable sternum strap and d-rings for keys and such). As well as a padded closed cell foam back panel for comfort. And it has the same redesigned fold-over flap and upper side compression straps. However, as opposed to the Minipack’s vinyl-coated nylon liner, the Softpack boasts a pack cloth liner that, although not fully weatherproof like the Minipack, remains waaaay more water-resistant than the average school pack. Meaning, unless you stay out in the rain for a long time , your stuff will still be dry. And – taking a queue from the successful Dash/Sprint releases, the Softpack features three flat, velcro-free pockets on the front of the bag as well as the inside. Plenty of room for all of your valuables. This new bag is super-light (about half the weight of our Minipack, at 1.8 lbs!), and super-soft and comfortable. ”

We finally received our first shipment of the new Mission Workshop Bags. We currently have both the larger Vandal, and slightly smaller Rambler in stock. I was pretty blown away with the functionality of these bags at the Interbike trade show last year, and from then until the release now, they have totally refined the bag into what I would consider one of the best engineered bags currently available. I would try to explain it all here, but there is too much, you are going to have to come check it out for yourself to really appreciate the genius of this bag. It is small and compact when you don’t have much, but then expands to a ridiculous size when your load requires it. Here is what Mission Workshop has to say about it.

Codename: The Vandal

Why would we call this bag the Vandal? It has never scribbled its name across random bathroom walls, nor has is ever been behind any aerosol masterpieces. No matter. What’s in a name, anyway?

The meat and potatoes of this bag is that you can carry anything from meat to potatoes and all food groups in between, in a storm-proof and flawlessly constructed example of what is rapidly setting the urban backpack’s standard. Anything you’ve got to carry- the Vandal can handle it.

Like for example, what if David Lee Roth and a bunch of his friends crashed your party and you need to bring home 48 burritos and a few jugs of Night Train? We wouldn’t recommend it, but yeah… You could carry that.

How about when Grandma needs a lift across town?

You see where we’re going with this. From the roll top storm-proof closure to the urethane coated fabrics and zippers, our Vandal is a virtual space suit in terms of its construction. We could go on and on about the stealth cargo expansion system, the backpack’s internal frame, EVA foam, or the breathable and insanely comfortable mesh backing, but is that going to stick with you any more than the vision of carrying your grandmother on your back across town? Probably not.

Suffice it to say, the Vandal is the gold standard of urban pack design. It’s a bag that’s at home everywhere from delivering tags in the mean streets to a leisurely roll out to the beach for dawn patrol and absolutely everything in between. It’s perfection that’s built to carry your life.

Cargo Backpacks Made in America with a Lifetime Warranty.

Out at interbike I had the pleasure to meet the fine folks from Mission Workshop. They have designed a really cool backpack style bag (the Vandal) that is definitely outside the box of the designs on the market now. I would explain how the whole things works, but instead I found this video to do it for me, I know most of you are visual learners. The bags are made in Colorado and we should have them in stock in a couple months.

Last month I received a bag from Jon Bailey of Bailey Works bags to test out. It is a prototype bag that has an exterior of vinyl instead of the typical Cordura. We already know that the basic Bailey Works Bags are great and are a staple bag for couriers and commuters all over the world, therefore the main question is, does changing the outside material to vinyl detract from any of the great things this bag has to offer. I have been riding with this bag now for a little while and figured I would pass on my thoughts.

Before testing this bag I hadn’t ridden with a sling style bag for a few years, so it was a little different from the get go, but the ease of use and comfort of the Bailey bags make them very easy to love compared to other slings I have used before. Putting the bag on is a breeze, I would give you the tutorial, but I would rather let you watch this little video instead.

Pretty nifty right. The only thing the video leaves out is that you can loop the tightening strap through the main strap using the D ring at the end, this is the super trick way to rock your Bailey, so don’t get caught with it hanging loose. Jon tells me the only reason they don’t ship this way is because people couldn’t figure out how to tighten them, but believe me it works great and keeps it up and out of the way at all times.

So lets get into the meat and potatoes of the bag, it has pretty much everything you need, a blinky light clip, reflective strip, exterior pockets, interior pockets(even one with a zipper), velcro and buckle closure, not to mention the whole thing is waterproof. Throw into the mix that all the bags are handmade in Portsmouth New Hampshire and you can see why I love this bag.

So the bag functions great, but how about the vinyl exterior? Well I didn’t notice any problems. It didn’t seem to feel any worse against my back and I can only imagine it would make the bag more waterproof as well as making it easier to keep clean. So I say it’s time to put this prototype into production!

We keep a full selection of Bailey Works bags in stock at both of our shops (Cambridge Bicycle and Superb) including the new Bailey Works Backpacks. So stop by to try one out for yourself.
